Obvious things can not be changed no matter what or who
tries to deny them. After all, it only takes common sense to recognize the
reality. In 1984, Big Brother is
viewed as the savior of all the people because according to the Party, he
rescued them from all the horrendous things that the capitalists apparently
did. He improved so many things that only make the lives of the citizens of Oceania better. Therefore, the people take in anything
that Big Brother and the Party say as a fact without having the slightest
concern that they might be wrong. “Freedom
is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else
follows.” (Orwell 69). This quote shows that the people of Oceania are manipulated into thinking that the Party is
the good guy here not the villain. Winston argues that the reality is the
contrary because the Party denies them the right to think for themselves. They
do not have any freedom because they can not think freely and accept the
reality that stands before them. Without them knowing, the Party has blinded
them and turned them into their personal slaves.
